THE NEED IS GREAT . . .

USA Today just reported that over 20% of twelve and thirteen year olds have already had sex.

Researchers in Washington, D.C., recently started a program to prevent early sexual activity. They planned to offer it to seventh-graders, but after a pilot study decided to target fifth-graders ЧЧ because too many seventh-graders already were having sex.

A United States Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that 48.4% of all students had sex by the time they graduated high school.а (this percent only fluctuated by 5% among different racial groups and socioeconomic areas)

Health educators are reporting that high numbers of students don't know what sex is.а Xenia Becher, a mental health educator at the Syracuse after-school program asked some 13- to 15-year-olds to define sex. "They had trouble coming up with an answer," she says. "Some said it had to be between a male and female and a penis and vagina had to be involved."

Jim Burns, in his new book How to be a Happy Healthy Family, reported that less than 10% of CHRISTIAN students claim that they received adequate sex education in the home.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Students are looking for answers about sex . . .

How do we address the topic of sex to today's generation?

"RECOMMENDING SEX" is giving answers.

The top three questions about sex asked by Christian teens today are:

1.а Why should I wait until marriage to have sex?

3.а How far can I go in the mean time?

Jonathan gets in their face and answers these questions clearly. Then, the RECOMMENDING SEX event gives students the opportunity to ask questions in a guys-only and girls-only setting.а Finally students are challenged to respond.а At our last event, almost 90% of students responded to making some change in their life:

I've got stop getting alone with my girlfriend.
I've got to think about what I'm wearing and how that affects guys.
I'm going to tell my boyfriend that we aren't having sex anymore.
I need to not watch some of the movies I'm watching and get rid of lustful thoughts.
